Thankful

By Bob Barber
Christian Financial Advisors Creative Giving Techniques

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

It’s that time of the year again. A time for family and friends to all gather around the dining room table for fellowship, turkey and all the fixin’s, and a myriad of pies. Afterwards, it’s time to watch football games around the big screen TV as everyone takes naps after eating all of that turkey.

In the midst of it all, let’s not forget what this day is really about – being thankful for friends, family, and each other. We are especially thankful for a God who loves us so much that He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to come live among us, and for those who have accepted Him as their personal Lord and Savior, given a place in eternity.

We have found in the past a fun thing to do is have each person around the dinner table on Thanksgiving Day to say two to three things for which they are thankful. Here are mine: I’m thankful for many good friends, an amazing wife, wonderful daughters and son-in-laws, my relationship with Christ, my church, a great business with very kind and loving clients who have become close friends over the years, a great town to live in, my health, and a wonderful home!

So what are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

Key Strategies To Lower Your Income Taxes

Key Strategies to Lower Your Income Taxes
  • Do you pay at least $25,000 or more in income taxes per year?
  • Are you a business owner?
  • Do you make a high income?
  • Are you receiving more passive income than you need?
  • Are you paying taxes on 100% of the passive income you do receive?
  • Are you over 70.5 years old and don’t need the required minimum distribution you have to take from your IRAs?
  • Do you receive significantly more in oil and gas royalties than you need?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, this workshop is for you. At this dinner workshop, you will learn of multiple tax strategies that could possibly save you thousands in income taxes every year.

Veterans Day

By Bob Barber
Veterans Day

Veterans Day is November the 11th. We are so fortunate to live in a country with thousands of veterans who have voluntarily served to keep our country and the world as safe as possible from those who want to destroy freedom and happiness. In the spirit of the season, don’t forget to say thank you this Veterans Day to those who are presently serving us in the military and to those that have served in the past. Never do I pass up the chance to say “Thank you for serving our country and for your sacrifice” to someone in uniform, a wounded warrior, or someone I know who has served in the military. Without fail, they always smile back and say, “You’re welcome.”

Happy Veterans Day!

Annual Broker / Dealer Convention

San Diego, CA
Bob at the Girard Conference

As he does every year, Bob attended our annual Broker/Dealer convention with Girard Securities Inc. in San Diego October 8th-10th. This year’s theme was bringing “Dreams into Reality”. Much of the focus was on technology, compliance, serving the unique needs of each generation from the “matures” to the “baby boomers”, and serving the unique needs of female investors, the fastest growing sector today. There were also a lot of sessions about the economy, interest rates, and the future of the markets. One of the things Bob found interesting is the large decline over the past several years in the number of financial advisors. This continues today right at the time when financial advisors are needed more than ever in history with so much confusion in the marketplace about how and where to invest and plan.

Investor Emotion

by Nathaniel Morris
Nathaniel Morris

One of the least thought about areas when making investment decisions is human emotions, yet it is one of the most important factors in investment decision making. Why do emotions impact our investment decisions? Because we are emotional beings created by God. This is what makes us each unique.

One way that we are affected is that we want instant gratification and to have our decisions validated as being correct in a short amount of time. I heard recently that there was a trend during the last economic boom to skip going to college because young people could go out and get a decent paying job and make good money without one. Now this decision is coming back to bite them as they are unable to maintain higher paying jobs, and they now lack the college education and skilled training that they need for a career. This is an example of only thinking of today instead of delaying for a better future and making the better long term decision.

The best way to manage emotions is first to understand them and what triggers them. The second thing you can do is consult with someone you trust to bounce ideas off of and keep you grounded and on track with your goals. This is where an experienced financial advisor can really make a difference. We at Christian Financial Advisors® want to help you manage your investments and to help you in the emotional side of investing as well. If you have any questions about investor emotions during these volatile market days, give us a call 830-609-6986.

Final Habitat Build Day

Comal County Habitat for Humanity
comal county habitat for humanity

We will be volunteering Thursday, November 12th from 8:00am – 12:00pm. The project currently scheduled for the day is installing siding.

Habitat for Humanity relies on volunteers to achieve it’s great mission. Won’t you join us in helping put God’s love into action to build homes, communities and hope?

We currently don’t have any volunteers other than our office staff to come alongside and help, so Bob has offered to buy lunch afterward at Longhorn Cafe for the first 10 that volunteer.

Please let us know if you plan to join us by Tuesday, November 10th. All volunteers get a free t-shirt, cap, lunch, and the joy of helping others!
